This is an immersive experience that invites deep concentration during the practice sessions and offers plenty of personal time in between to continue your inward reflections. Whether you are creating art, indulging in some optional spa time, walking the nature trails, relaxing by the pool, or going on an excursion, the invitation is to bring your meditation with you. This will allow you to deepen your state of presence while experiencing each moment more fully, thereby creating an enduring practice to bring home.
To this end we will provide designated times for observing silence daily, which can be extended individually as desired. Early in the retreat we will offer an optional Mindful Excursion to the beautiful Waterfall Gardens so you can experience Costa Rica’s beauty with heightened presence. Mid-week (Wednesday) will be a free day that can serve as a day of rest, a self-care spa day (treatments are optional), an opportunity to further explore Costa Rica, or a day to just be and breathe in the mountain air amid the lush grounds of Pura Vida. You may also choose to have a full day of silence. Pura Vida is the perfect place to support your journey!
Maria Cerro is an artist, Zen practitioner and teacher currently living in Fort Lauderdale. She was introduced to Zen meditation at 19 years old, through an esoteric Japanese martial art, and studied under her revered master for almost two decades. This transformed her life and her art and they became inextricably linked in mindfulness. After being awarded a Graduate and Teaching Assistantship for the MFA program at FAU, Maria traveled to Naropa University in Colorado to study Tibetan Buddhist art with visiting monks. She would spend several years engaging in numerous spiritual retreats both in the US and abroad studying Tibetan Buddhism and practicing presence with instruction by Eckhart Tolle, author of The Power of Now. Maria found universal truths and healing in these philosophies and other mystical traditions, which round out her Zen training and are embedded in her art. Maria is dedicated to sharing these invaluable teachings that cultivate a balanced mind and artful living. She teaches Zen meditation merged with art for self-awareness and transformation through workshops, mentoring, collaborations, exhibitions, meditative art events and this forthcoming art and meditation retreat. Maria is thrilled to offer this retreat at her “home away from home” in beautiful Costa Rica. Welcome to Pura Vida!
